Re: cold/ first start for the day and fuse issues

Your description of starting your bike sounds exactly like when I start mine (82 CB650SC Nighthawk/Luxury Custom?), I found that I don't need full choke or it won't start. 3/4 choke is ok for mine plus 3 or 4 twists of the throttle, one push of the button and it fires up, leave it to tick over a cou...

Re: '82 cb650sc project

Haven't posted in a while...I have taken a break to refurbish a house. Learned how to lay vinyl plank floor last week and my knees are complaining that I'm on them too much! Hope to be back on bike tasks in a few weeks. I'll be back when there is more bike progress! I've been doing the same mate, a...

Re: Cam Chain Guide 1981 CB650

Sorry for the delayed response but I was able to locate one on ebay by messaging sellers of Honda CB parts directly to see if they had any guides left in their parts bikes that they had not yet listed. Thank you still George. Glad you got sorted Dom, that one of mine wouldn't be worth the price of ...

Re: '82 cb650sc project

Thanks for commenting Skiwatcher, I was beginning to think this forum was only frequented by volker, sweety, and bots! I also wondered if the readership was mostly into factory correct restorations, because nobody comments on this one. I welcome comments both for and against, it's all part of the a...

Re: Cam Chain Guide 1981 CB650

Bumping as I'm about to do a teardown and need one of these as well. Already have the chain and all the gaskets, but I can't for the life of me find a chain guide for my '82 CB650. Where are you located e_filippo? I ask because CB650 motors are pretty common in the UK......its a damn shame that Nig...

Re: Cam Chain Guide 1981 CB650

Hi Dom, Partzilla has the one in your pic listed for 500 and 550 fours. The spare one I have was from a parts engine and TBH its pretty knackered. The one in your pic looks to have one square mounting point where the one in my pic are both round. tensioner blade 002.JPG George, I would still be int...

Re: Cam Chain Guide 1981 CB650

Where are you Dom? Ebay should have some listed although the prices seem to vary wildly. I do have one but I don't think it was in a very good shape, it's been a while since I've seen it, I'll check it out later.

Any decision on these side panels yet?

Re: Therapy Project

Hello David, glad you are sticking with it :D I bought a large ultrasonic cleaner for cleaning engine parts, it stripped 99% of the crud, old paint, carbon build up and old gasket remains from my Nighthawk cylinder head and barrels (jugs?) before repainting. Quite possibly it is my favourite tool as...

Re: Top end rebuild, my discoveries and disappointments

GeorgeSweety, I didn't take any pictures of my head gasket installed, but I did take a picture of the bottom of my head after I finished the valve job. The bottom of the head is basically a rectangle around the cam chain opening. See below. I'm not sure, but that weird gasket you got would seal whe...

Re: Top end rebuild, my discoveries and disappointments

Hi Surfdad, how did that head gasket work out for you? I bought an NE gasket set for my 82 SOHC CB650SC Nighthawk but the head gasket was wrong, the cam chain tunnel cut out was a different shape, the cylinder holes and front bolt holes didn't line up. In the pic below the top gasket is a genuine Ho...

Re: Can't get voltage through relay for heated grips. Help?

JJ, the CB650 has a well known crap charging system so why the hell would would you want to complicate things any further? Buy thicker gloves! It's just for a few weeks out of the year. What can I say, I like my gadgets. And my skinny boney fingers are the coldest part of me while riding. Anyway, I...
