Re: charging system

Yep. That's definitely not good. You should be getting around 14 volts or so at 3000 rpms. At what point did you change your rectifier? A bad rotor can burn out a new rectifier pretty quickly.

Re: Cylinders 1 and 4 not running

Sometimes I have to clean carbs two or three times to get them REALLY clean--and I completely disassemble them.

Re: No spark on cylinders 1/4 82' CB650sc

It is definitely obsolete. :(

Before I bought a used one that may or may not be any better than the one you have, I would physically check the length of the wires and see if you can feel a break. I might even go so far as to splice in a new wire to see if that fixed my problem.

Welcome back, Dean!

The 1979 and 1980 had different carbs that the CV carbs you are used to. The good news is the mechanical slide carbs actually CAN be made to work with the pods.

GeorgeSweety was absolutely correct. Your issue is your issue, and it may or may not be the same as the original post. That being said: You did "everything." Give us some detail on what you actually did. I say this because there was a guy who said he "cleaned his carbs over and over a...

Re: No spark on cylinders 1/4 82' CB650sc

Have you tried swapping the coils to see if the problem moves to the other plugs? You may also want to check the gaps on your pulse generator. While you are there, check for continuity on the wires coming from the pulse generator to the ignitor modules. Sometimes they will get pinched and broken. Al...

... or by turning the 22mm nut on the right hand side of the engine clockwise (gently as the 22mm nut is a dummy on a very thin shaft) I always recommend using the rotor bolt on the other side of the engine to do this--even though a clymer or similar manual recommends the 22mm nut. You can buy 7mm plug wire in bulk at most auto parts stores. Then just cut it to size and screw on the terminals.

Re: charging system

Here is a link to a trouble shooting guide for the charging system. It was written for the DOHC Honda models of the same era, but the system on your bike is basically the same.

Re: Mafic's Nighthawk CB650sc Starting troubles

Your carbs almost certainly need cleaning. The ethanol fuel has turned to syrup in your float bowls and has plugged things up. Take a look at the carb cleaning manual sticky in the technical discussion forum. PS: I made your issue it's own thread. That way there is no confusion as to which person's ...

That is part of the accelerator pump. This is not my picture, but the black arrow is pointing to the brass part. The ball bearing is under the brass piece. This is on the float bowl of the #2 carb.

Re: Wire harness repairs

You really don't need to have the OEM connectors unless you are trying to do a restoration. You can get individual connectors for each wire--you just then have to make sure they get plugged it right every time. That being said, here is a source for new connectors: http://www.oregonmotorcycleparts.co...
