Re: 79 CB650 Running only on 3 Cylinders

I assume you have checked you have a spark on number 2?

then check for vacuum leak on number 2 carb to start with if not a split carb to head rubber, do a compression test on #2

Custom Airbox

I get quite a few messages asking for the information on how I made my custom airbox, that replaces the standard and unlike pod filters does not need a lot of messing about with jets. So I've pulled all the pictures and drawings together and dumped them into a drop box that anyone can access from th...

crappy Carb boots!

Does everyone have problems with carb to head rubber boots splitting? every year I have one or two go bad on me and crack (usually resulting in me limping home of three cylinders). anyway I'm looking at changing to silicon tubing (reinforced turbo intercooler spec) has anyone done this yet? I've ord...

Re: Carb problem

what makes you think they are dragging?

It is on a direct mechanical linkage so unless the throttle won't snap shut it should not be a problem.

Silly question but I assume the heavy closing spring is still on the bike

Re: top coils not firing

Easiest way to test is the switch the wires between the coil (primary coils) that will see if the fault is the coil or the 12 volt circuit. If 1 and 2 still have spark then it's not the coil (it will be the trigger/control circuit), if 3/4 now work and 1/2 don't work it will be the coil

Re: Help Putting on new bars

here's what I did for mine (1981) to fit 1" bars, you have to bore out the Front brake and clutch lever clamps but that is also easy

Clutch question

Hi All I've been piling on the miles this summer and one thing that I need to fix over the winter is a clutch issue, so before I strip it down, just want to check your collective thoughts. The problem is - The clutch does not fully disengage when the level is pulled in. I've adjusted both ends to th...

Re: 1981 CB650 #1 Cylinder not firing

wont using a relay introduce a change in ignition timing as there will be a millisecond delay in closing the contacts.......or is this a test for checking the standard wiring to the coils only?

Re: Exhaust system impact?

Since I fitted a MAC 4:1 system instead of my open cherry bomb, the bike starts, revs and idles better than it has ever done, so I would say yes, back pressure on the CB650 is important.

why this is I cannot tell you :-)

Re: Helicoils found in base to bolt down block - what do?

yes I have heli-coils in over half of my cylinder head long bolts, done properly they are fine. at least half of the treaded holes are blind so when I did mine I drilled out through the bottom so I have more meat to helical into. I would not recommend trying to go to the next size up. check the heli...
